Heta Te Haara was a signatory of the Treaty of Waitangi, and a prominent Northland Rangatira.  Heta Te Haara is credited with peacemaking efforts, in particular organizing the respectful re-internment of British soldiers who had died during the 1845 Battle of Ohaeawai, 27 years later.
